epa07128654 (16/17) Filipino grave dwellers resting on top of tombs view a burial rite at a cemetery in Manila, Philippines, 21 October 2018. Many public cemeteries in Metro Manila are home to thousands of Filipinos who share space with the dead. These are thriving communities where-in residents earn livelihoods by carrying coffins during burial rites, by repairing and painting tombs, collecting recyclable materials, and selling candles and flowers. Dwellers struggle to survive without adequate water, electricity, toilets, and are exposed to illegal drugs. EPA/FRANCIS R.
